Manual & CNC Machinists

Day shift or permanent nights

Day shift£18–£20/hour
Permanent nights£23.94–£26.60/hourIncludes 33% shift premium

At Taylor Forgings, we value skilled manual and CNC machinists equally. You can apply for either discipline and either shift — you do not need experience in both.

Manual Machinists

Set and operate conventional centre lathes and vertical borers, working from engineering drawings and job cards. You will select tooling, feeds and speeds; carry out turning, facing, boring and drilling; complete self-inspection; and maintain accurate traceability records.

Typical machines: Herbert centre lathes and Webster & Bennett vertical borers.

CNC Setter/Operators

You do not need to be a programmer. Competent setter/operators who can safely set and run proven programmes should apply. The role includes selecting tooling and workholding, loading proven programmes, setting offsets, completing dry runs, monitoring production and carrying out first-off and in-process inspection.

Typical machines: Doosan/Puma turning centres, Sunfirm long-bed CNC lathes and Dah Lih vertical machining centres. Fanuc experience is advantageous. Programming or programme-editing ability is welcome but not essential.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven manual machining or CNC setting/operating experience
  • Confidence reading engineering drawings and working to tight tolerances
  • Sound knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds and safe machining practice
  • Ability to use measuring equipment and complete quality records
  • A reliable, quality-focused approach; night-shift machinists must be comfortable working with greater autonomy
